The Australian Navy embraces new technology. In this presentation Andrew will take us throught the development of Boat 7 a virtual environment of the Collins Class Submarine. Andrew will look at the challenges in implementing new technologies within a traditional training culture.
We will experience the timeline of development, ‘costs vs benefits’, how we now train submariners and how this development has shaped the future of training within the Royal Australian Navy.
Andrew Widdis, Bachelor of Arts (Multimedia Design)
Andrew Widdis is the Training Technology Manager at the Submarine Training & Systems Centre, HMAS Stirling, Garden Island.
Leading an in-house team in the development of e-learning, serious games, virtual environment development, virtual reality & augmented reality to support the Royal Australian Navy and its training requirements for Submariners.
Andrew Widdis is a member of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) Simulation Computer Working Group which is responsible for the coordination and development of the Simulation Computer Technical Specifications and a member of the ADF Virtual Environment Working Group which is responsible for addressing the ongoing need for a more standardised approach to the use of Virtual Environments within the ADF.
